About The Lanes: the back story

The Lanes are the old heart of Brighton, the narrow lanes and twittens of the fishing town of Brighthelmstone. Today they hold jewellers, boutiques and cafés, the oyster house of English’s, Embers’ wood fire and Burnt Orange’s Bib Gourmand.

The twittens

Meeting House Lane, Brighton Square, Duke Street and Ship Street are the heart of the quarter.

Where to eat

Embers, Burnt Orange, The Flint House, English’s, Riddle & Finns, Terre à Terre and Food for Friends.

Come in the morning, before the crowds.

Where to drink

The Cricketers, Plateau and the cocktail bars along Middle Street and East Street.

Our advice: walk the Lanes, then cross East Street to the sea.
