Beyond Brighton
Golden Square and the Wash House
A Millennium project
About Golden Square and the Wash House
Behind the High Street, Golden Square was the site of four cottages whose only water came from one brass tap. Georgiana Burne-Jones, elected to the parish council in 1896, campaigned for wash houses for cottages like these; the Rottingdean Preservation Society restored this one as a Millennium project in 2000.
