Hovertravel’s hovercraft crosses from Southsea to Ryde in under 10 minutes. Wightlink runs the FastCat for foot passengers from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head (about 22 minutes) and car ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne (about 45 minutes) and from Lymington to Yarmouth (about 40 minutes). Red Funnel’s Red Jet carries foot passengers from Southampton to West Cowes in about 28 minutes, and its car ferry to East Cowes takes about an hour. Portsmouth Harbour, for the FastCat, is about an hour and a half from Brighton by train, with one change (National Rail). Check each operator’s timetable before you travel, as sailings change with the season and the weather.
