Jubilee Library
Prize-winning building
About Jubilee Library
Jubilee Library, on Jubilee Square in the North Laine, opened in 2005. It was designed by Bennetts Associates with the Brighton practice LCE Architects and won the 2005 Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award, beating 14 other shortlisted schemes; it was also shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize that year. Its tall main hall is cooled naturally: air drawn in through the hollow concrete floors is let out through wind towers on the roof. Anyone can walk in to read, browse or use the study spaces; check the council’s library pages for opening hours.
